Letter of Appreciation

Dear 100 Black Men of Jacksonville

I would like to take the time out to express, to the Jacksonville chapter, what an honor it was attending the conference in Orlando. I was surrounded by beautiful black intelligent beings of all ages. I was proud and grateful to be a part of the ‘youth’, they were all dressed accordingly and so smart. Everyone had a smile on their face and was willing to speak on any subject whether it was about their hometown, or setting up a future business.

The first day we arrived, I didn’t know what to expect entering the great conference room later than the opening remarks… and prayer. J As I sat there I listened to three great men speak about the activities that would follow over the next few days. To my surprise, they informed me about how much fun we were going to have. At that moment I knew that it just wasn’t an experience that I could just be remembered, it was an opportunity to act.

After opening session, we waited quite some time for our rooms in the lobby. While waiting, I thought about how someone fund raised or gave donations in an effort to send me to this luxurious resort, and this was a rare moment in my life. I took in my surroundings carefully and quickly became excited as to what was next on our agenda’s.

Over the next three days my favorite or most inspiring workshop attended was about voting. We talked openly about what we could do personally on our level in our communities with our families and friends. It was a new perspective of hearing others talk about what they had done. In Detroit, Charlotte, and Indianapolis, places so far but situations all similar.

My second favorite workshop was the one about self image and how important it is to be dressed appropriately. I would only think to dress accordingly for work church or an interview. How you dress is much deeper than that.

We also went to Island of adventure and I rode 5 rides in 2hours which is UNBELIEVABLE. I still cannot get over that fact. The youth went to a place call Disney Quest where we played games all day long. That was also a rare privilege. I played virtual games, Mrs. Pac Man to Galaga where of course I was a champ. Just when you think the day was over there was a party every night… with modern music and a DJ from Atlanta.

I really enjoyed myself, getting to know Dr. McIntosh and Mr. Wooden was definitely fun! The conference and atmosphere have inspired me to work hard in my life; to strive towards my career and be even more successful in the business of Hospitality. Once again thank you for opening my eyes and letting me see what can be achieved.
